a 48-Hour Head Start In The Race To Secure Your WordPress Website

Any good WordPress website administrator is always striving to improve their ability to monitor your website for vulnerabilities and find them before they become a problem.

Recently one of my favorite security tools, iThemes Security Pro, made a significant improvement in their ability to identify threats to a WordPress website. They have integrated their vulnerability scanning component with Patchstack’s Threat Feed.

By doing this we now have a way to “get ahead of the hackers”. How? Patchstack’s Threat Feed provides a 48-hour advance warning before newly discovered WordPress software, plugin, or theme vulnerabilities are made public.

This 48-hour window of time allows us to intelligently determine how to address any newly discovered issue on your website before the vulnerability becomes widely known. Hopefully, even before hackers learn how to exploit the issue.

Don’t Worry

If you are a Market Street WordPress Website admin subscriber, then your website has been setup for automatic updates to plugins, themes, and WordPress core software. These are performed daily, with security updates being applied twice daily.

Additionally, backups are automatically done prior to any update, just in case something unexpected happens. It is rare, but, sometimes an update causes a conflict with other software and needs to be undone.

Market Street uses iThemes as a part of our security toolkit. So, if a security threat is identified by Patchstack’s Threat Feed and if there is no security update available, we should have a 48-hour head start. We can use this time to take whatever action is appropriate to safeguard your website against the newly discovered vulnerability.

Market Street’s mission is to take the technical administrative headaches out of your way, so you can enjoy doing whatever you do best (ie: probably anything other than WordPress website administration). 🙂
